Poetry Wednesday #13

To My Fellow English Speakers:

Though English is my native tongue

(and, in truth, my only language except for a smattering of

curse words from around the globe)

Sometimes

I don't

Understand.

Sometimes I must translate every word spoken to me -

Somewhere in my brain there is a backfire, a

dis

        con

                 nect

Between words and 

Meaning

And what comes from your mouth

And teeth

And tongue

And throat

Is just sound.
